Tickets selling well for Johnny Clegg’s PMB concert

JOHNNY Clegg’s Bigger and Better concert, to be presented next month by Impi Concept Events and The Witness, is attracting a fantastic response from fans, according to promoter Stu Berry.

“Corporate sales have accounted for some 200 ticket sales to date, and the general standing, gold circle and seated ticket sales began yesterday. Based on the number of inquiries we, The Witness and Woodburn Stadium have had, we are expecting ticket sales to soar in the first few days as fans ensure that they have their passes for the live event.”

The concert, the first of its kind to be hosted and staged at Woodburn Rugby Stadium, will take place on April 17.

Leading up to the concert, a marketing campaign — which has begun already through The Witness’s print advertisements and the billboard outside the YMCA in Pietermaritzburg — will build an air of excitement among the residents of Pietermaritzburg and surrounding towns.

“Our aim is to create an event that everyone in Pietermaritzburg and the midlands will want to be at. We have three superb acts performing, a stage/sound/lighting setup that is the best available, and a venue that caters for all ages and cultures, from seated to standing tickets,” said Berry.

Supporting Clegg on the main stage will be South African rock stalwarts Wonderboom, who have consistently been voted one of SA’s best live acts, with lead singer Cito Otto described as having “the best live voice of any South African artist to date”.

Their combination of superb vocal talent and popular hits, such as Shadows and It’s Great to Be Alive, will provide concert-goers with the perfect performance to lead up to Clegg.

Clegg’s performance is shaping up to be a cracker. “Johnny is extremely excited to come back to Pietermaritzburg, after his successful show at Hilton’s Crossways Pub in October. He is looking forward to performing to a bigger crowd, with the aid of bigger and better sound and lighting to enhance the performance.

“He has promised that ticket holders will hear the ‘tried and tested Johnny Clegg’, with his greatest hits such as Impi, Great Heart and Kilimanjaro forming the backbone of his set.”

If ticket holders think that the fun ends there, they are mistaken. The Sharks will be squaring up against the Lions on the same evening in Johannesburg, and the game will be shown at the event on three massive screens, starting at 5 pm.

“The aim of this event is to bring quality entertainment to the people of Pietermaritzburg and the midlands, as well as getting more visitors from the Durban/Hillcrest area to our city. Durban has a great record of having superb entertainment, and there is no reason why Pietermaritzburg can’t offer the same to its residents,” said Berry.

So for a live Sharks game, four live acts (220 minutes of live music), a beer garden, superb stage/sound and lighting and a brilliant night out for the whole family, this is value for money that nobody should miss — from R190 per person.
