‘Tiger’: Widow mulls suing hospital

2012-01-10 00:00

THE widow of late Minority Front leader Amichand Rajbansi has no plans to sue private hospital Netcare in Umhlanga yet, over an infection he contracted while in hospital.

Shameen Thakur-Rajbansi said yesterday she was waiting for the mourning period of prayers to pass before deciding her next move.

However, her decision will not necessarily be going down the litigious route. “My intention is to be guided by the type of person Mr Rajbansi was.

“He was a trendsetter who turned a negative situation into a positive,” Thakur-Rajbansi said.

She added that it was unacceptable that infections were allowed to flourish in hospitals and, with the events that led to her husband’s death, much had to be considered before a decision could be reached.

Her late husband would want changes that will make a difference to all patients and will help improve the health care system, she said.

Rajbansi died on December 29 after an extended stay in hospital.

The prayer period is expected to end on his birthday, January 14th, when a memorial service will be held. A decision on the next leader of the Minority Front is expected to be taken after January 14.
