MARCHANT de Lange finally found his rhythm to break through the stubborn defiance put up by the Chevrolet Knights, taking five wickets in the day to give the Unlimited Titans a 152-run win in Bloemfontein yesterday.
If it’s any consolation, the Knights returned to the pavilion with pride restored after a gritty, resolute innings of 396 over 102 overs in the face of a target of 549 and four-and-half sessions to negotiate.
Pite van Biljon led the way, scoring 113 and stalling the Unlimited Titans’ drive for victory, but there were magnificent contributions from Rudi Second (80), Obus Pienaar (68) and Werner Coetsee (39).
The Knights may have been inspired by the fighting spirit of Second and Van Biljon, but they had a psychological mountain to climb and in the end it was too arduous a task
The Titans gathered 19,32 points and extended their record in the series to two wins and one loss; while the Knights (now 2-1 in the series) gained just 5,7 as a consequence of their dismal first innings of 185.
