IF weather forecasts are to be believed, today will be a good day to snuggle up in winter woollies and avoid the outdoors if possible.

The South African Weather Service has issued a warning of very cold conditions over the southern and western interior of KwaZulu-Natal, with snow over the Drakensberg today, and black frost occurring overnight in some parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Pietermaritzburg’s minimum temperature was expected to be six degrees with a maximum today of 14°C, accompanied by a 30% chance of drizzle.

But other parts of the province are even chillier, with freezing point being reached at Van Reenen, Underberg, Mooi River, Kokstad and Giants Castle overnight. The maximum temperatures for those areas are expected to be between eight and nine degrees today.

The expected minimum for Newcastle overnight was 12°, with a maximum of 22 today, and for Ixopo a minimum of five and maximum of 18° was forecast.

By tomorrow, however, slightly warmer weather is expected and the maximum temperature forecast for the capital is 24° (with a minimum of five degrees overnight).
