Toll route traffic picking up

About 2 200 vehicles per hour are expected to enter KwaZulu-Natal this long weekend and the flow will pick up the week before Christmas.

Department of Transport spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said vehicle numbers were “escalating” yesterday afternoon amid inclement weather.

Last week about 1 000 vehicles per hour were recorded entering the province. Yesterday, 674 vehicles per hour were recorded travelling northbound at Tugela Toll Plaza and 417 southbound.

Mooi River Toll Plaza recorded 860 vehicles per hour southbound and 631 northbound and Marianhill Toll Plaza recorded 1 435 vehicles northbound and 1 633 southbound.
