Entries for the Hansa Powerade Dusi 2009, which takes place on January 15, 16 and 17, close tomorrow.

“Entries are flooding in as paddlers want to make the Friday deadline,” said Ray de Vries, spokesman for the organisers yesterday.

Late entries will be accepted after tomorrow, but will be subject to a late entry fee. “I have just got back from a route recce by helicopter to see what the route looks like. It is looking great. The hyacinth clearing by DWAF is going very well indeed.”

De Vries said the chairman of the Dusi, Cameron Mackenzie, had a productive meeting with Rob Haswell, uMsunduzi municipal manager yesterday about water quality.

“The municipality are showing solid support for the event,” he said.

The charity batch auction is open and paddlers are able to enter the race and bid for the auction at even if they have not yet qualified.

De Vries warned paddlers not to paddle the river on their own, but rather in groups.
