Top PMB sides focus on goals

2011-05-13 00:00

THE top two club teams in the KZN capital, Maritzburg Varsity and PMB Collegians, will have similar but different goals in mind when they play at 3.30 pm tomorrow.

Varsity will be looking for their first KZN Moor Cup Premier Division win of the season as the competition goes into its fourth round, when they face Crusaders at Ranleigh Crescent in Durban North.

Collegians will be looking to consolidate their position on top of the KZN First Division South log table when they tackle the competitive, Port Shepstone-based South Coast Warriors at Woodburn Stadium. Even more important, perhaps, is the fact that it will be ideal preparation for Collegians’ crunch encounter with fellow frontrunners Hillcrest next Wednesday.

And the capital’s third-ranked side, PMB Elephants, will be looking to take points off struggling Kokstad when they make the trip to East Griqualand.

Collegians have been dealt a kind hand, in a sense, by the power failure in the Highway area that called off the key encounter with Hillcrest last Friday night. Firstly, Hillcrest’s lights are poor, which doesn’t favour skilful sides; secondly, Collegians had gone a week without a game in the build-up, due to Wentworth’s withdrawal. Now, coach Rinier Bosman’s side have a guaranteed good workout against the Warriors tomorrow.

Tomorrow (home teams first): Fidelity Security Moor Cup Premier Division (3.30 pm): Crusaders vs UKZN Maritzburg; Old Boys vs College Rovers; Zululand Rhinos vs Jaguars; Harlequins vs Durban Collegians. Reserves 2 pm. First Division South (3.30 pm): PMB Collegians vs South Coast Warriors (Woodburn Stadium); Amanzimtoti vs Hillcrest; UKZN Durban vs Ballito Dolphins; Kokstad vs PMB Elephants; Richards Bay vs Wentworth. Reserves 2 pm. First Division North Section (3.45 pm): Ladysmith vs Vryheid. Reserves 2.30 pm. U20A (2 pm): Crusaders vs Pietermaritzburg; Quins vs Durban Collegians; Old Boys vs College Rovers (3.30 pm).
