UP to 3 000 people were left homeless and at least 24 were taken to hospital with various injuries after a tornado ripped through Donnybrook yesterday afternoon.

Resident Neville Powers said hundreds of houses in the area have been completely flattened and that rescue operations were still taking place late last night.

“The place has been completely devastated,” he said, explaining that the damage was confined to the Phozela area.

Powers appealed to anyone able to assist those affected by the disaster to contact him at 039 831 0003.
