Toti vs Durban Collegians the pick of the weekend club rugby action

2014-05-16 00:00

UNBEATEN Durban Collegians, the only Fidelity Security Premier Division side who can still claim that title, face an intriguing encounter with the impressive third-placed rookies, Amanzimtoti, at 3.30 pm at King’s Park tomorrow, in what looks to be the club rugby pick of the weekend.

Three points ahead of reigning champions College Rovers on the log, Durban Collegians ran out convincing winners over Maritzburg Collegians last Saturday at Woodburn Stadium and showed the kind of form that has pleased head coach Robin Swanepoel.

While UKZN Impi had a very good first half, which was enough to ensure victory against a resurgent Zululand Rhinos in the battle of the basement last week, their opponents tomorrow, College Rovers, will likely have too many weapons to be unduly troubled.

Crusaders, mid-table in this eight-team competition, will be looking to maintain their winning momentum against coach Carel Nel’s Maritzburg Collegians outfit in Ranleigh Crescent, Durban North, while the Rhinos host Varsity College in Empangeni.

The weekend’s fare kicks off with U20 A Division action when Varsity College, fresh from toppling leaders College Rovers last time out, host second-last UKZN Durban at 8 pm on the Riverside Sports Club field today, while College Rovers, keen to be more than just a points difference ahead of College, face a potentially awkward encounter with Durban Collegians.
