Tovey xpected to be named Thanda coach

2011-06-29 00:00

FORMER AmaZulu and Mpumalanga Black Aces coach Neil Tovey is expected to be announced new Thanda Royal Zulu coach, The Witness has learnt.

The National First Division Coastal Stream side’s team manager, Thabani Gumede, however, would not be drawn into revealing the name of the new coach, and would only say that a press conference has been convened for this afternoon in Richards Bay.

“It would be unfair to divulge everything at this juncture,” said Gumede.

“Let us wait for the press conference where all details regarding the coach situation and preparations for the new campaign, will be addressed.”

Tovey will replace Mlungisi “Professor” Ngubane, whose tactics left much to be desired and resulted in the Richards Bay outfit failing to gain promotion to the PSL.

Tovey, a former Bafana Bafana skipper who has had coaching stints at Mamelodi Sundowns, Hellenic and recently at Aces, will be assisted by Milton Dlamini.

A player overhaul is expected at Thanda in the new campaign following the PSL’s ruling that all NFD teams should field five U23 players in the starting line-up.

Thanda had been fielding several PSL has-beens, like former Orlando Pirates striker Phumudzo Manenzhe, defender Edward Malinga and ex-Chiefs marksman Lucky Mzizi.

Ngubane is likely to be demoted to development structures.
