Town Hill: N3 closed after truck overturns

2011-09-30 00:00

THE N3 southbound lane at Town Hill was partially closed after a truck overturned yesterday morning, blocking two of three lanes.

The driver of the truck, which was hauling a container to Durban, allegedly feel asleep behind the wheel and then drove into the middle concrete barrier at 5 am.

Provincial Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said it was fortunate that the truck did not go over the barrier and into the oncoming traffic.

“Two vehicles travelling in the same direction as the truck then apparently slid on the truck’s spilt diesel and crashed into the side-turned vehicle,” she said.

The truck driver was taken to Northdale Hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Two lanes were closed, with the third lane left for the trucks to pass, while cars were diverted from the N3 at the Cedara off-ramp. The road was re-opened at 1.30 pm.
