Townhill trucker 10 times over alcohol limit

2007-12-19 00:00

A truck driver 10 times over the legal alcohol limit has been arrested driving his truck and trailer dangerously on the notorious N3 Townhill.

Masedi Frank Machaba, a truck driver from Soweto, was arrested yesterday after ignoring a solid barrier line and overtaking more than one truck.

His breath-alcohol level was found to be 1,03 mg/1 000 ml — equivalent to more than 10 tots of spirits.

It is not clear whether he has been granted bail.

His arrest comes in the wake of the arrest on Sunday of a trucker who was found to be 17 times over the limit — the equivalent of two bottles of spirits, say traffic authorities — after he crashed into another truck while driving on the wrong side of the R612 in Umzinto.
