Toy Story 2009: ECR listeners donate over R1 million

2009-12-29 00:00

EVERY bit helped. East Coasters donated more than R1 million and 40 000 toys to East Coast Radio’s Toy Story 2009. The campaign, sponsored by OUTsurance, has ended successfully.

The R1 million bought food parcels designed to meet a family’s daily needs. They feed a family of between four and six for five weeks, and were distributed to child-headed households.

During the rest of the year, these children are usually given a meal at school. In the December holidays, however, many don’t know where their next meal is coming from. This is where Toy Story stepped in.

The toys have been sorted according to gender and age, and each new toy found a home with a child at one of the 63 government hospitals, orphanages or child-headed households throughout KwaZulu-Natal. Many of the children face their illnesses and their stay in hospital alone.

“The people of KZN are generous and do care about each other … Thank you for helping us make a difference” said Nazarene Khan, East Coast Radio’s marketing manager.
