Traffic cop killed on N2

2013-10-16 00:00

A PINETOWN-BASED traffic officer was killed when her vehicle overturned on the N2 highway near the M19 split towards Durban yesterday.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said Abbey Kurpia-Naicker had been on leave. “She had taken some time off. So at this stage, we don’t know where she was coming from or going to. We understand that her vehicle overturned. She was flung out of the vehicle and died on the scene,” said Mngomezulu.

At the scene, Kurpia-Naicker’s body, covered later with a silver space blanket, was found lying about five metres from her car.

Traffic on the N2 freeway southbound near Umgeni Road was backed up right past the kwaMashu on-ramp and took an hour to start clearing.

Family spokesperson Julian Ramsamy said the family was too upset to speak to the media yesterday.
