Traffic official impresses with first run

2010-06-01 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG’S Traffic Department has a new heroine: 35-year-old clerk Ntombezinhle Ayvis Zuma.

Zuma finished 657th out of 5 552 women — and this was her first run.

Her run was a long time coming; she decided to undertake the ultramarathon in 2000 after she had been roped into walking in another race.

“After that I decided I was going to run the Comrades!” she laughs.

Zuma says she had a good run, and enjoyed her time immensely. “Well, all except Botha’s Hill,” she says. “That just killed me!”

She hopes to do even better in 2011.
