Traffic plan jams

2010-10-26 00:00

THE traffic gridlock contingency plan got off to a shaky start yesterday when police officers failed to man some of the intersections targeted by the Msunduzi Municipality.

This fuelled residents’ perceptions that the municipality is staffed by officials not capable of doing their jobs.

When told that there was no sign of any plan in place, councillor Mergan Chetty promised to find out what was happening.

He called later to say he had met the acting municipal manager, Thokozani Maseko, who told him there were a few problems to be ironed out.

“The municipal manager promised we will have traffic officers on the road tomorrow and the pilot to manage Manning Avenue one-way during peak traffic times will be rolled out on Thursday morning,” said Chetty

“I apologise to the motorists for any inconvenience caused as expectations were raised by the contingency plan outlined by the municipal spokesperson,” he added.
