ONE of the main access roads to Greyville and Morningside will be closed to motorist for the duration of the Durban July today.

The Metro Police has confirmed that Avondale Road will be closed, and warned people that there will be a significant increase in traffic around the Greyville Racecourse, especially the popular Florida Road.

DLI Avenue through to Haden Road will be mostly used by people travelling to the venue.

The Road Transport Inspectorate are working in collaboration with police, metro police and emergency services to help things flow smoothly. Roadblocks will be set up around the N2 and N3 to check especially for drunk drivers.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane again urged motorists not to get behind the wheel if they are under the influence. “Our law enforcement teams will be out in full force to ensure that the rules are adhered to.”

A total of 380 policemen have been deployed in and around the event.
