Transfer news galore from PSL

2010-09-01 00:00

THE websites were alive with Premier Soccer League transfer news yesterday as last night’s deadline for the closing of the transfer window approached.

Probably the surprise transfer of the day would have been of Pietermaritzburg-bred right-back Bryce Moon (24) for Durban team Lamontville Golden Arrows.

Arrows have hired their first non-South African coach this season in Serbian Zoran Filipovic and the club, usually known for promoting youngsters from their youth ranks, made a further departure from normal policy by signing Japanese forward Norikazu Murakami from Platinum Stars.

One of the bigger-name signings concluded before yesterday’s deadline was Mamelodi Sundowns defender Robyn Johannes to Orlando Pirates.

This added to Bucs’ impressive list of signings in the off-season that include Daine Klate from SuperSport United and the Bloemfontein Celtic pair of Mark Mayambela and Patrick Malokase.

Another big-name defender sold by Sundowns was Derrick Spencer to Platinum Stars.

Stars’ general manager Jason Rainer said: “I can confirm with you now that we have just finalised the documents and he is a Platinum Stars player.

“We have agreed on a two-year deal with a one-year option for extension. He is a very good defender and, as a team, we are proud to have him in the set-up of the club.”

Bloemfontein Celtic snatched striker Siphelele Mthembu on a season-long loan from Pirates, obtaining forward Lennox Bacela on a similar deal from Santos.

“These two last-minute signings are the last for us,” said Celtic CEO Ikie Augousti

Vasco da Gama have delved into the transfer market extensively for their first season in the PSL, and yesterday added left-back Aidan Jenniker and striker Cole Alexander from neighbours Ajax.

Vasco’s other signings include left-back Ditheko Mototo and strikers Excellent Walaza and Sibusiso Zuma.
