Trapped: truck driver injured

2012-09-03 00:00

IT took over four hours yesterday to free a truck driver from the wreckage of his truck, which landed upside down at the bottom of an embankment.

The driver is in a serious condition at Grey’s Hospital after the accident on the N3 southbound between Balgowan and Lions River.

“ER24 paramedics, along with other emergency personnel, arrived on the scene and found the articulated truck virtually upside down, about 10 metres away from the roadside down the embankment,” said spokesperson Derrick Banks.

“The cabin of the truck was severely damaged in the accident and the driver was … entrapped inside the wreckage. The fire department had to use the jaws of life and other rescue equipment to help free the man from the wreckage,” said Banks. He said it was believed that the driver lost control of the truck as he was taking the corner due to mechanical failure.
