Tri-Nations: Brussow in Bok sqaud to face Oz

2011-08-08 00:00

CHEETAHS flank Heinrich Brüssow was predictably added to the Springbok squad yesterday for the home leg of the Tri-Nations series.

Brüssow made a successful comeback from a hamstring injury in the Currie Cup match at the weekend and assembled with the other 24 players in Durban yesterday. The team to face Australia at King’s Park on Saturday will be named tomorrow and it seems certain that Brüssow will start on the flank.

Such is the depth of backline players available to Wallaby coach Robbie Deans that he has omitted the gifted Matt Giteau from his 26-man squad that is travelling to Durban for Saturday’s Test.

Giteau was not in the Wallabies squad that lost to the All Blacks in Auckland, and he could miss the RWC. Deans has released Dan Vickerman to play club rugby and brought in the experienced Nathan Sharpe to fill the second-row gap. Deans has also called up prop Salesi Ma’afu and No. 8 Radike Samo for the tour.

Wallabies squad: Ben Alexander, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Kurtley Beale, Luke Burgess, Quade Cooper, Pekahou Cowan, Rocky Elsom, Anthony Faingaa, Saia Faingaa, Will Genia, Scott Higginbotham, Matt Hodgson, James Horwill, Digby Ioane, Sekope Kepu, Pat McCabe, Ben McCalman, Stephen Moore, James O’Connor, David Pocock, Rob Simmons, Sitaleki Timani, Lachie Turner, Nathan Sharpe, Salesi Ma’afu, Radike Samo.
