2010-05-15 00:00

TRAFFIC officer Edward Xolani Mtshali will go on trial on October 12 for allegedly assaulting Camperdown motorist Jude Ward. The trial date was agreed by the defence and the state when Mtshali made his second brief appearance in the Camperdown Magistrate’s court yesterday.

Mtshali is charged with assaulting Ward at Camperdown police station on January 18. He allegedly pushed her to the ground, put his knee on her back and hit her head on the floor. The incident allegedly occurred after Mtshali pursued Ward along the N3 highway in an unmarked vehicle.

Ward is facing charges of inconsiderate driving and failing to obey a traffic officer’s instructions arising from the incident, and is due to go on trial on June 15.
