Tribute for murdered official

2010-02-02 00:00

THE Education official found murdered in her Westville home at the weekend was described yesterday as a bubbly, energetic and spirited individual.

Education spokeswoman Mbali Thusi said Ntombizonke Adelaide Cele (59) had been with the department since 1972 and at the time of her death had been working as a chief education specialist under the Educator Human Resource Development.

“I did not know her very well. But in the interactions I have had with her, she was always bubbly and energetic.

“She was the type whose presence was always felt whenever she was around. And everyone is saying the same thing.”

It is believed that Cele’s 10-year-old granddaughter ran to neighbours for help early on Sunday morning after intruders allegedly bound her up with a rope, ransacked the house and drove off with her silver grey Toyota Yaris.

The car was found abandoned an hour later in Sydenham.

The little girl, who was in the house with her at the time of the murder, was not injured.

Provincial police spokeswoman Director Phindile Hadebe said there has been no new information on the case.

She could not say what had been stolen from the house, but said the organised crime unit is busy searching for any leads that might result in apprehending the perpetrators.

KZN Education spokesman for the Democratic Alliance Tom Stokes said ongoing violence continues to rob the country of talented and dedicated people.

“The DA expresses regret and sadness at her senseless death and extends heartfelt sympathy to her family,” added Stokes.
