Trophy rhino: no sign of hunting wound

2009-11-23 00:00

EZEMVELO KZN Wildlife (EKZNW) staff, in the Mkhuze section of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, have reported that the white rhino bull in the Mkhuze Controlled Hunting Area, that was supposedly wounded by a hunting client a few months ago, has been found to be in excellent health. This rhino was identified by the three Mkhuze field rangers by its unique ear notches and horn shape. After a lengthy examination through binoculars, they didn’t trace its wound. The rhino was also examined by the Mkhuze Conservation manager.

An EKZNW vet didn’t trace any wound and noted the rhino moved normally, although it was “quite skittish” and disappeared into the thickets before he could examine it.
