A TRUCK overturned on the N2 between the Empangeni area and the Mtunzini toll gate, went off the road and slid down an embankment on its side, before coming to stop against some trees shortly after 9.30 am yesterday. KZN Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson Robert McKenzie said they, together with local emergency services in the area, responded to the scene. They found two people in the truck with critical injuries. The patients, who both required urgent medical attention, were treated on scene before being taken to Ngwelezane hospital. The police are investigating the cause of the accident. Meanwhile, yesterday KZN EMS also had their hands full treating 16 patients injured after a taxi overturned on a rural road in Mdonini, near Pongola in the north of KZN. The accident was reported by community members. The patients were found to have serious injuries and were taken to Itshselejuba Hospital. Police are investigating the accident.
