Truck driver shot in Howick

2013-11-04 00:00

A TRUCK driver was seriously injured on Saturday night when he was shot while his vehicle was stationary in the Howick area.

Netcare spokesperson Chris Botha said paramedics met the driver at a truck stop in Mooi River at around 8.30 pm. After he was stabilised at the scene, they transported him to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

A Witness report published in July 2011 stated that truck hijackings were reportedly on the increase in KwaZulu-Natal, with the Midlands regarded as a particular hot spot at present, according to a source in the insurance industry.

Another story published in 2011 quoted a police spokesperson as saying that in that year 46 cases (ranging from attempted murders to truck hijackings and armed robberies) were reported to the Hilton police by motorists who stopped at the Hilton off-ramp, 17 km from Howick.
