Truck driver stabbed to death in rift over bread loaves

2014-06-03 00:00

A TRUCK driver working for Sunshine Bakery was allegedly stabbed to death in an argument over two loaves of bread at the Raisethorpe central business district on Friday.

Hedesh Ramchandar (37) allegedly had an argument with a colleague who then stabbed him.

Family spokesperson Prasheen Harrimohan said, “He lost his life over two loaves of bread. Violence is not the answer to solve problems.”

He said they could not believe it when they heard that Ramchandar had been stabbed to death by a colleague.

“This leaves two little children without a father,” said Harrimohan.

He described Ramchandar as a wonderful man who was well loved by the community of Northdale because he was a humble man.

Harrimohan added that Hedesh was too kind and gentle to be killed like this.

“He was so loved that about 2 000 people came to pay their last respects at his funeral on Saturday.”

He leaves behind his wife Nevidika (33), his daughter Ixsha (11) and his son Zyrique (5).

Sunshine Bakery human resources administrator, Kerry Richmond said Ramchandar worked as an agent, selling and distributing Sunshine Bakery bread in Northdale.

Richmond said, “Hedesh, known for his positivity and great energy, was a valuable member of the extended Sunshine Bakery family and this is a tragic incident which has impacted on all.”

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker no arrests have been made and investigation is continuing.
