Tukkies meet F.S. in final

Instead, the competition’s administrators had to make the unenviable decision of choosing today’s finalists based on the week’s statistics and the like.

The result is that defending champions Tukkies from Pretoria will meet Free State University in the 50-over final at the Varsity Oval, with a 9.30 am scheduled start. And as Reggie Smith, the host university’s sports administrator for cricket on the PMB campus told The Witness, the rest of today’s play-off matches had to be determined in the same manner owing to yesterday’s washout.

“We had to determine the order of play for the final day [classification matches] using the results from the pool games,” Smith said. “We looked at number of wins, points, number of points, and net run rate.”

Notwithstanding this unfortunate situation, both finalists are worthy of the tag and it should be a top-class match, weather permitting of course.

Final: Tukkies vs Free State (Varsity Oval).

3-4: Nelson Mandela Metro vs Western Cape (PMB Oval); 5-6: Wits vs Johannesburg (Varsity 2); 7-8: Maties vs Vaal (Maritzburg College); 9-10: KwaZulu-Natal vs North West (St Charles); 11-12: UCT vs Tshwane (Michaelhouse 1); 13-14: Rhodes vs Walter Sisulu (Michaelhouse 2); 15-16: Cape Peninsula vs Central (Eston).
