Two acquitted of ANC man’s murder

2014-07-25 00:00

TWO men have been acquitted by the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court for the murder of an ANC party agent from Wembezi, Estcourt.

Bongumusa Zulu (34) and Mlindeli Dlamini (35), both from Wembezi, were discharged by Magistrate Rose Mogwera yesterday, who said ballistics tests and the state’s sole witness had failed to properly identify the men as the murderers of Sabelo Sokhela.

Mogwera said the evidence of Zama Simelane identifying the men would have been corroborated if the ballistics had linked Zulu and Dlamini to the murder.

The magistrate said it is easy to make a mistake when one is terrified.

Sokhela was killed after voter registration on November 10, as he walked with Simelane on a footpath to his home.
