AN overturned truck near Cato Ridge caused a major backlog in traffic along the N3 yesterday.
Compounding the problem, two cars crashed into the overturned truck where it lay on its side, obstructing two lanes. The Superlink truck was Durban-bound in the early afternoon when the accident happened. It is believed the truck may have swerved to miss hitting something in it’s path.
Pietermaritzburg ER24 spokesperson Paul Knoesen said two people sustained serious injuries, while three more were treated for moderate injuries.
Knoesen said the truck driver sustained the most serious injuries as he was trapped underneath the wreckage.
“He was rushed to Hillcrest Hospital with our advanced life support team, while the rest of the injured were all stabilised and taken to various hospitals around Pietermaritzburg for further treatment.”
