TWO men were arrested in Mbazwana in Northern KwaZulu-Natal for impersonating police officers.

The two men were found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, suspected stolen property, and a police uniform that is believed to have been used to impersonate police officers, said police spokesperson Thulani Zwane.

Zwane said police from Sileza Border post along with members from Mbazwana police station were conducting an intelligence driven operation at the Mseleni area in the early hours of yesterday morning when they approached one of the homesteads in the area. At the premises they found a BMW vehicle with three occupants.

“Two suspects were arrested after they were found in possession of a 9 mm pistol with seven live rounds as well as a police uniform,” he said.

He said the third suspect, who is a well-known taxi owner in the area, managed to escape and is still at large.

Zwane said the recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if it was used in other crimes.
