TWO men were indicted yesterday to stand trial in the high court from May 16 to 27 next year for the murders of Lorraine Karg and two farm employees, Hilda Linyane and Shayi Zakius Mhlongo, at Sherwood Farm in the Mooi River district on July 21.

The prosecution will be conducted by state advocate Dheelan Naidoo.

Indictments were served at Mooi River yesterday on the two accused, Mzwandile Magubane (21) and Nhlanhla Dladla (22), who are charged with three counts of murder, one of attempted robbery with aggravating circumstances, one of robbery with aggravating circumstances and two of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The victims of the assault charges are Bonginkosi Mhlongo and a youth, Innocent Linyane.

The state alleges that Neville and Lorraine Karg were lured from their farmhouse by a fire deliberately set in a field.

Lorraine Karg returned to the house to fetch more fire-fighting equipment and was confronted by two assailants armed with a firearm and knives.

She fled and was pounced on by the attackers who stabbed her in the neck, killing her.

The assailants then escorted the employees who were in her car to the house, assaulting Bonginkosi Mhlongo en route.

Linyane was shot dead inside the house. The youth was taken to a bathroom and kicked in the face, chest and back.

Shayi Mhlongo was allegedly stabbed in the neck and killed when he began struggling with one of the assailants.

According to the indictment, the attackers tried to gain access to a safe, but were disturbed by the return of Neville Karg. They allegedly took a cellphone.
