Two-month-old baby kidnapped from mother in CBD

2008-01-18 00:00

A TWO-month-old baby boy was kidnapped from his mother on Monday by a stranger who befriended her at the Boom Street Clinic.

Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said the mother, Anna Dlamini of Hopewell, took baby Siyabonga for treatment to the clinic.

There she was approached by a stranger who volunteered to look after the baby while she went to have a tooth extracted at a clinic on the opposite side of the street.

When she returned, she found the woman and Siyabonga there.

Dlamini told police that she had a severe headache, and the woman suggested that they all go to buy headache tablets from a nearby store in Masukwana (East) Street.

Dlamini said that as she entered the shop, she turned around to discover that the woman had disappeared with her baby. Siyabonga was wearing a blue nappy and a green vest.

Any person who has any information is asked to contact Detective Constable Xolani Nzuza on 072 881 3738 or 033 387 9500.
