Two more suspects nabbed for hijack

TWO more suspects have been arrested in connection with the hijacking and abduction of Durban North resident Dorothy Carlyle, police said.

It brings to five the number of people arrested.

Charges of hijacking and kidnapping are being pursued.

Carlyle (59) was hijacked on Tuesday afternoon outside her home and taken with her assailants.

She was rescued nine hours later by a search party of police, private security staff and residents.

Carlyle was found stabbed and badly beaten in the boot of her BMW outside a tavern in kwaMashu.

Her attackers had made three withdrawals from her account totalling R2 000. The transactions helped authorities trace her whereabouts.

Three suspects — two women and a man — were arrested on the spot, while two others fled.

Yesterday, police made the subsequent arrests. All five will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court today, said police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane.

Carlyle, said to have been severely traumatised, has been recovering from her ordeal in Umhlanga Hospital.
