Two pile-ups obstruct N3 North

2010-03-20 00:00

FOUR people suffered minor injuries in an 11-vehicle collision on the N3 northbound near Market Road yesterday afternoon.

ER24 spokesman Derrick Banks said one of the injured is a pregnant woman. He said they were all treated for possible neck and back injuries and taken to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic.

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokeswoman Zinhle Mngomezulu said the cause of the fender-bender was a tar spill during road construction, which made the open lanes slippery.

She said the road was cleared of the tar and the vehicles involved were removed.

This accident led to another one on the same route near Ashburton. It involved five cars.

No injuries were reported.
