A SECURITY guard at the Umgeni/N2 interchange construction site was stabbed to death yesterday afternoon. Eye witnesses said the 32-year-old man, who cannot be identified until his family is informed, was on duty when two men attacked him.

A resident who lives near the construction site said two men had confronted the guard on the site and both stabbed him. They ran away but were chased by police, who happened to be driving by. Nozuko Hulashe, a Kennedy Road committee member said the man, who is well known in the community, had been working as a guard at the site since the inception of the project. “He was always helping people,” said Hulashe.

Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson, said paramedics found the guard in a critical condition. “The patient went into cardiac arrest and paramedics tried to resuscitate him, but he died on the scene,” said Jamieson.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said two suspects were arrested in connection with the murder.

He said the motive for the killing is unknown and the suspects were charged with murder. — WR.
