Ugu: Land dept warns of scam

2011-03-11 00:00

THE Department of Rural Development and Land Reform has warned Ugu residents that fraudsters are going around and persuading people to pay them money to process claims and compensation from the department.

Spokesperson Nokuthokoza Ndlela said the department started paying out financial compensation to Komiti and Albersville residents on March 1 and that the process went well.

But the department has since learnt that there are people from these communities who are going around to other communities inviting people to register for R500 per person for further payments.

“The department would like to distance itself from such acts as they are criminal, fraudulent and unlawful,” said Ndlela.
