Ugu municipality supports activism against women abuse

2012-10-27 00:00

THE Ugu District Municipality along with the main sponsor, the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, launched the 16 Days of Activism of no violence against women and children campaign at the Margate Hotel, yesterday.

“Domestic violence has taken the lives of many women and children of our district. As Ugu, working together with other stakeholders, we again pledge our support for this campaign and bind ourselves to ensuring that the cycle of violence against women and children is broken once and for all,” said Ugu Mayor, Ntombi’fikile Gumede.

Raising awareness about this campaign, Ugu will conduct a number of programmes related to 16 days of activism. This includes the Ugu District hospitalised children Christmas gift campaign which is aimed at profiling the work of various stakeholders that are partners in the fight against women and children abuse. The organisation will also hold moral regeneration dialogues and road shows. — Witness Reporter.
