Umgungundlovu netball seniors unbeaten

2010-05-18 00:00

THE schools’ umbrella body that runs netball in the district, Umgungundlovu Schools’ Netball, had over 60 schools participate in their age-group trials.

Umgungundlovu selected seven teams ranging from U12 to U18, who competed in an Inter-Districts Tournament in Richards Bay. The senior teams won all their games and the Umgungundlovu junior teams were competitive throughout the day.

It was a special thrill for all those involved in Umgungundlovu schools’ netball when 14 of their players were selected from the 900 participants to attend the final KZN trials later this month.

In addition, two of Umgungundlovu’s U12 players, Amakhale Mhlaba from Piet Retief Primary and Natalie Nsahlai of Scottsville Primary, were selected into the KZN team to play in the interprovincial tournament in Johannesburg in August.

Umgungundlovu schools’ netball is an increasingly competitive force in the province and the district governing body and players expressed their appreciation to the Department of Education and sponsors for their assistance in kit and transportation costs for the Richards Bay trip.
