Umlazi: Serial rape suspect arrested at Mega City

2011-10-24 00:00

UNDERCOVER policemen arrested a suspected rapist in a park near the Mega City complex in Durban. The suspect has been linked to at least four attacks in Umlazi.

Captain Thulani Zwane said the undercover policemen were deployed in the park last week to search for a rapist who targeted young couples sitting in the park. He would rob them of their cellphones, assault the men, chasing them away, and take the women to the bushes where he raped them.

It is alleged that he attacked the victims between 4 pm and 7 pm and claimed to be a policeman working at the park.

The undercover policemen spotted a man fitting the description of the assailant. He was stopped and searched and found in possession of an unlicensed rifle with 45 live rounds.

Following his arrest the 43-year-old man was positively linked to four rapes reported at the park, said Zwane. — Witness Reporter.
