Underberg abuzz after ‘drug package’ at post office

2011-07-06 00:00

The small town of Underberg is buzzing with the news that a woman has been arrested after a parcel delivered at the local post office — allegedly intended for her — contained drugs.

Rowena Aldous (30) was arrested on Friday. She appeared in court on Monday and faces drug possession charges. She was released on R500 bail.

The circumstances surrounding the arrest of Aldous are unclear as the police have refused to give out more details on the matter for fear of compromising their investigations as they believe that more arrests are possible.

Sources in the area said Aldous was nabbed by the police on Friday the parcel was collected at the Underberg post office.

Provincial police spokesperson Thulani Zwane confirmed that Aldous had been arrested and is facing drug possession charges.

SA Post Office spokesperson Nobuhle Njapha said incident took place outside the post office’s premises and it was therefore not informed.

She said the post office normally keeps suspicious packages aside and calls the police to investigate, depending on what it suspect is in the package. — Witness Reporter.
