Unidentified: Man murdered for his shoes?

2008-07-27 00:00

Police suspect that a neatly dressed man, whose battered body was discovered in the city centre by a newspaper seller at the weekend, may have been murdered for his shoes.

Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram said the unidentified man was found lying near the intersection of Jabu Ndlovu and West streets early on Saturday morning. He had sustained severe head injuries. The African man was neatly dressed in a pair of blue trousers and a blue T-shirt. His shoes were missing, giving the indication that the possible motive could be robbery.

Police are requesting assistance in tracing the identity of the man and information in solving his murder. Anyone with information is requested to contact Captain Kercy Pillay at 082 434 1163.
