Unique musical mix

2009-09-18 00:00

A UNIQUE collaboration takes place tomorrow night when Cape Town singer-songwriter Ian Henderson is joined by Durban musicians Shannon Hope and Dave McMillan, and Pietermaritzburg’s Erin Fourie at the Red Door (5 Quarry Road) at 8.30 pm.

Henderson is riding a wave of success from the release of his second album Superglue, recorded in Sweden, Norway and South Africa with a Scandinavian producer and world-class studio artists.

He has two singles that are playlisted on national stations, music videos playing on public and satellite channels, and is just coming off the back of hosting a highly successful winter series in Cape Town called The Song’s The Thing, which brought the best acoustic singer-songwriter talent in that city together in a unique collaborative format.

Hope has paid her dues in well- known Durban alternative pop-rock bands, and is now forging ahead with a solo career, returning to her roots as a classically-trained piano-based vocal artist. She released her first solo studio album Still in April, has played many of the biggest festivals, and is known for being one of the busiest touring artists on the national circuit.

McMillan is a stalwart of the Durban scene and collaborates regularly with Hope and Roly Struckmeyer. His debut album Trying to Find Rewind has been well received locally, and he is making a rare appearance in Pietermaritzburg.
