United aim for 3 points

2008-02-29 00:00

Having bounced back to winning form, second-placed Maritzburg United will aim for another three points against relegation-threatened Hanover Park in their First Division Coastal Stream match at Vygieskraal in Cape Town tonight.

United bounced back, after a four-match winless streak, with their 2-0 victory over last-placed Western Province United at Harry Gwala Stadium last week. They will need to maintain that form as the Coastal Stream race threatens to go down to the wire.

First-placed Bay United, a point ahead of Maritzburg, are at home to Durban Stars in Port Elizabeth tomorrow. Maritzburg square up against Bay in a potential stream decider in both teams' second-last match of the season at Harry Gwala Stadium on April 5.

'Definitely the confidence is very high after our last victory,' said United team manager Quintin Jettoo. 'And the guys have realised that with five games to go we just have to pick up maximum points from now on.

'And they also realise that there will be no easy games. Hanover are fighting relegation, and in their home match they are going to try their best to give us a run for our money.'

United have crucial playmaker Lynch Pule and central defender Memba Sylla out suspended.

Coastal Stream fixtures:

Tonight: Hanover Park v Maritzburg United (Vygieskraal, 8 pm)

Tomorrow: (all 3 pm) Bay United v Durban Stars (Woolfsons), Ikapa Sporting v WP United (Erica Park), Nathi Lions v FC Cape Town (King Zelithini)
