United not taking Leopards lightly

DESPITE being second in the PSL standings behind Kaizer Chiefs and undefeated in four outings this season, Maritzburg United are not resting on their laurels ahead of tonight’s clash against Black Leopards in Polokwane.

United coach Ernst Middendorp said: “Far from it … in fact, we have a great respect for Black Leopards.

“I watched their last match against Kaizer Chiefs and they played with great structure and moved forward.

“They were unlucky to lose and should have at least come away with a point for their efforts.

“We are definitely not taking them lightly and need to stay alert on the field.”

Middendorp added that the Team of Choice have definite targets for each match and the players understand what is required of them, making use of their skills and opportunities during play.

“There is undoubtedly a great spirit and atmosphere of confidence in the side, which is a bonus.

“Taking the field in this frame of mind is half the battle, but it can also be dangerous,” he said.

“We must ensure we do not settle into a comfort zone where we think we can do less because we are enjoying a good period.

“We must work harder to stay where we are and perhaps get better, otherwise, if we let that go, we are in serious trouble.”

An indication of the good fortune smiling on the team is Middendorp having all his regular players available for selection, a unit without injuries and one that is building a formidable unit on the pitch.
