United star Olomu in court

2012-05-08 00:00

MARITZBURG United midfielder Prince Wilson Olomu appeared briefly in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court yesterday, charged with being in possession of stolen goods.

This followed his arrest in Howick Road in possession of an Apple iPad.

The 25-year-old, wearing a black leather jacket and jeans, was accompanied by his wife, who was carrying their toddler, at his hearing yesterday.

The couple sat patiently in court, waiting for him to be called to the dock.

Magistrate Dieter Schultz read out the charge sheet and informed him of his rights. Asked by the magistrate about his lawyer, Olomu said he would need seven days to appoint one. The matter was then adjourned for the footballer to secure representation.

Approached for comment, Maritzburg United spokesperson Younus Kadodia said: “We know about the player and we will meet him soon, perhaps tonight or tomorrow.”

Olomu scored 13 goals in the 2009/10 season while playing for Bloemfontein Celtic.
