Unlucky Collegians go down in one-sided tie

2012-06-08 00:00

MARITZBURG Collegians were extremely unlucky to go down 20-18 to Harlequins in KZN Premier Division club rugby action.

“We totally dominated the game, had 75% territory and possession, but could not finish off,” Collegians president Tony Day told The Witness.

“Taking the wrong options led to frustration and giving the ball away. To add to this, what we thought was a legitimate interception and try was disallowed.”

Day said the Collegians’ front row was “totally dominant and what should have been turnover ball ended as reset scrums”.

A penalty goal at the death gave Quins their win — yet another match Collegians could have won only to be thwarted in the closing minutes.

Collegians’ players of the match were Mfundo Magubane (backline) and Josh Caruth (forwards).

A weakened PMB Varsity, plagued by injuries and more, had a weekend to forget.

Due to the Springboks versus England Test at King’s Park there are no fixtures this weekend, other than today’s KZN U20 A Division clashes.
