Unmissable Blues festival

2013-09-26 00:00

THE Durban International Blues Festival is poised for an unmissable finale at Wilson’s Wharf in Durban this weekend.

The festival is now in its ninth year. The organisers said it aimed to make Durban a “Blues” capital providing a stage for both internationally renowned and local acts.

Spokesperson Tanya van Agthoven said they have achieved great recognition and have had big names such as Fiona Boys from Australia and other drawcards from Japan and Canada perform at the festival.

Over the years, they had to overcome hurdles like limited funding, but this year they have been boosted by the Department of Arts and Culture’s involvement, she said.

The artists will hold educational master classes to sharpen the skills of the up-and-coming Blues musicians.

“This part is for the development of music. They come and learn from well-known artists about their craft and Blues as a genre,” she said.

The festival will run until Sunday.
