‘Vampire killer’: man drops bail bid

2011-02-18 00:00

MURDER accused Njabulo Gwala (22), dubbed the “vampire killer” for allegedly drinking the blood of one of his victims, abandoned his application for bail in the magistrate’s court yesterday. His co-accused, Bongani Richboy Gwala (53) of Imbali, has been denied bail.

The two men are charged in connection with the three murders of Vusi Magwenyana (38), Dumisani Khumalo (44) and Mlondolozi Mbanjwa on December 16. Njabulo Gwala is also charged with the attempted murder of Thokozani Mkhize by “firing shots at him”.

Mkhize reported that Gwala shot him in the arm and thereafter drank the blood that gushed from his arm. He allegedly also dipped some bread he had taken from the victim into the blood and ate it.

The case was postponed to March 24. — WR.
