Van Rensburg: Hunt still on

2012-10-20 00:00

THE police are still searching for Leon van Rensburg (52) who went missing this week after claiming to have been hijacked last week.

This after the New Germany man is alleged to have made false statements under oath and police found “inconsistencies” in his hijacking story.

He told the police that he was hijacked at gunpoint by two men in a bakkie, who dropped him at Underberg. His car was found on Wednesday last week, near Kokstad.

He had allegedly sent an SMS to his 15-year-old daughter saying, “Help, hijacked”.

The Witness reported yesterday that family spokesperson Rob Gardener said Van Rensburg left a note stating serious illness and intentions to commit suicide.
