Van Zyl retains lead at Sishen

KATHU (Northern Cape) — Jaco van Zyl fired a four-under-par 68 to retain the lead of the Vodacom Business Origins of Golf event at Sishen Golf Club after 36 holes.

He leads by one stroke from Charl Coetzee going into the final round, after both players had a pair of bogeys to spoil their cards.

Van Zyl started out with a five-under-par 31 for his opening nine, but he made a bogey on 10 and 11 to slip to one-over 37 on his way in.

It looked as if he would be one shot behind Coetzee going into the final round, but Coetzee, who had started his round on the 10th, contrived to bogey seven and nine on his way in, and he let the lead slip.

Van Zyl’s round was particularly galling, as he went out in 30 on the back nine in his opening round, and 31 on the front nine during the second round. “I’ve just got to stay out of the bushes,” he said. “I was in there a couple of times today, and it’s just not pretty.”

Coetzee headed for the range to work on what he believes is something readily repairable.

“It’s a tendency of mine,” said Coetzee of the bogeys which cost him the lead. “… I pulled two and made two bogeys.”
